This course was made for writers like you.

You have a writing process that doesn't look like anyone else's, and you've been treating that as a problem.
You've been in writing spaces that claimed to be safe but weren't, and you're a little guarded.
You want to write through hard things — personal history, trauma, difficult material — without burning yourself down in the process.
You're ready to stop performing the writer you think you should be and find the one you already are.
"Erik's teaching helped me transform the traumatic events in my life into art. I started to release a lot of pain that I experienced into light and to have a greater sense of compassion for myself."
    Erik Fuhrer

    Erik Fuhrer

Queer, nonbinary poet, memoirist, playwright, and writing teacher with a PhD from the University of Glasgow and an MFA from the University of Notre Dame. Author of eight books, including Gellar Studies (Spuyten Duyvil, 2023) and the forthcoming memoir My Buffed Up Life. Currently teaching at UCLA Extension.

I wrote some of those books on napkins. Some on my phone in parking lots and coffee shops. Some on receipts and other scraps of paper. One poem while Sarah Michelle Gellar happened to walk by. None of it looked like the process a writer is supposed to have.

I've been building trauma-informed writing spaces for years because the alternative — spaces that look safe but aren't — does actual damage. This course is the distillation of what I give every writer I work with before anything else.
